Wood Rot Damage
Sure, termites cause billions of dollars in home repairs each year, but are you aware of the damage caused by wood rot? Wood rot destroys a significant amount of timber each year. Dry rot is a living growing fungus. Humidity allows the rapid spread of dry rot. Feeding on timber the fungus will actively seek out new fresh timber for food.
Dry rot can spread over dry timber and other types of building material. Wet rot, cannot spread as dry rot can. Wet rot is confined to its moisture source, needing direct moisture to spread.
Wood rot can destroy a structure. Some times it may take its time, others it may move more rapidly. Either way if it is neglected and not addressed it can crumble at any given moment. The uncertainty can cause bodily harm if some one were holding on to a weakened hand rail, or staying on rotting stairs. Something that you may want to take into consideration if you choose to turn a blind eye to active wood rot.
