Rodent Problems Solved
Megan Pinneo
Winter is here and so are the rats.
We aren’t the only ones scurrying into our homes to escape the cold Winter weather, rats and mice are too. These rodents create many problems for home and property owners, not to mention the wide spread health risks they also pose. Did you know that rodents can carry more than 35 diseases? Well they can! I don’t know about you but that is not something I want to welcome into my home and near my family. Rats can run the risk of disease but also can cause more simple colds and allergies to appear in your daily life, talk about inconvenience. Rats spread these illness's through contact from rodent saliva, feces, urine or a rodent bite.
Wondering what are some symptoms to look out for?
Upset stomach - This is caused by indigestion of rodent feces or urine contamination in our food.
Coughing, muscle pain, fever, headaches, and in severe cases fluid in the lungs- These symptoms can all be signs of Hantavirus which can be cause by inhalation of dust particles from rats or coming into direct contact with rodent feces or urine.
It is also being shown that mice are becoming more antibiotic-resistant. So why run the risk of getting any one of these illness's when you can take several steps yourself to help avoid any issues with rodents taking over your home. I have put together some simple steps that you and your family can do in and around your home to help keep these pests out and for them to stay out as well. However, remember when all else fails and it might when trying to take charge against these small yet mighty mice you can call your local trusted Pest Control Company to further assist you with your rodent infestation.
Steps in keeping Rodents out of your home
Fill holes and or gaps you may have surrounding your structure. Doing so will help to keep them from continuing to find their way into a structure.
Another thing you can do that you may be doing already is to set traps around your home. Try using peanut butter in a T-shape along the trap.
Install door sweeps, this goes along with filling any holes or gaps. Also be sure to check for torn screens on windows and doors.
Trim any trees that may be in close contact to your structure. Rodents can easily use large over grown branches as a freeway to your roofs.
Check any areas where food is stored, be sure all food is properly sealed using airtight containers. Don’t forget that also goes for your pets food as well. Need I say -do not feed the mice.
Have you taken a look in your attic lately? Keep attics ventilated and dry. Also check the crawl spaces these can often be overlooked.
Lastly, if you feel that all your measures are falling short and still find that rodents are causing an issue for yourself and your property it is time to call in the Professionals in rodent control .
Black Knight Rodent Control and Extermination
Taking back your home from a rodent infestation is not an easy job and in some situations you’ll want to call in a professional to help control and get rid of the rodent infestation. A professional can safeguard your home against rats and mice. If you decide to call Black Knight Pest Control first they will do an inspection of the property to determine what access areas the rodents are using then they will inform the homeowner of any trees that need to be cut back. They will exclude holes that rodents may enter with expanding foam or hardware cloth. Tamper proof bait stations will also be placed around the home. Black Knight Pest and Rodent Control will put in the work for you by installing snap traps and glue boards in the attic or tin cats in the interior if needed. Tin Cats are mouse traps that allow you to catch and release mice without having to touch them. Have them clean and sanitize your attic of rodent dropping because I know that’s the last thing you want to do in your day. Black Knight Pest and Rodent Control can also replace your existing insulation with the new borates and cellulose green insulation. Cellulose insulation is an alternative to fiberglass insulation. Cellulose insulation is sprayed or blown into the walls which will conform to corners and those hard to reach areas creating a stronger better barrier against drafts. Therefore, cellulose insulation is found to be a smarter longer lasting option.
The “tail end” of this being no one should have to deal with a rodent infestation all on their own and many times it’s just not possible to get it under control on your own and if that time does come try not to sweat it too much and call on the Professionals at Black Knight Termite and Pest Control and they will handle it for you.
