House Mouse Problem?
There is a real problem with mice infesting homes and businesses especially in the Winter months. For people experiencing a rodent problem there are a few things recommended that you do around your property to help control the rodent problem. In speaking with Alfonso, I asked him as a Pest Control Professional what are his top rodent control tips for the average property owner.
TOP RODENT CONTROL TIPS
Keep all trees trimmed away from roof access.
Get in the habit of leaving the garage doors closed at all times.
After feeding pests pick up food and put away in sealed container.
Routinely walk around the property to make sure that AC units, door sweeps, windows, etc. are sealed properly.
Field Mice
Field Mice also known as: the house mouse are small in size with the ability to get into extremely small cracks and spaces. Which is why it is important you check for cracks and seals around windows and doors. Field mice have a unique ability to jump, climb and gnaw into homes. They often carry fleas and ticks, be sure to check pets to see if they have been effected. Once in your home the usually nest in attics, walls and crawl spaces. House mice though tiny can prove to be very destructive. Fires can be caused from the mice chewing through electrical cords. Not only will they eat your food but rodent droppings and urine can contaminate food storage. They are hard to catch in most cases because of their ability to memorize a structure in that they are extremely aware of their surroundings always on high alert. Once field mice get into your home it is important that you take control of the infestation immediately.
Roof Rat
Roof rat can also called; black rat or ship rat is known for its long tail. Getting their name from usually finding shelter on upper parts of homes and buildings. Farmers dread the roof rat and consider them serious pests, eating a large range of crops and vegetation. Thriving in cold weather and living in colonies they often search for food in small groups and have a habit of returning to the same food source time and time again. Feeding time for black rats is mostly at night but will also search for food in the day. Roof rats tend to nest in rafters and attics staying on higher levels but will seek shelter in low spaces also. As all rats do they gnaw through drywall, siding and wood leaving a trail of destruction. Roof rat will feed on almost anything with a diet ranging from nuts and berries to snails and cockroaches. Rats causing damage of property to food contamination they pose a huge problem to home owners and need to be controlled.
