Apartment Living and Pest Control
Apartment living has its perks, one of the best ones has to be calling some one else in when you have a maintenance issue. Did you know that if you have a pest control issue the same goes for that as well? Apartment complex properties are required to have a regular pest control company set up for routine service. Rodents, spiders, ants, termites and even wood rot, should, and need to be taken care of just as they would need to be addressed if you were living in a home. Your apartment after all is your home and should be well taken care of. One of the things that is written into your lease is pest control and its services, so take full advantage.
When should you call the leasing office with a pest control issue?
Warmer weather is fast approaching and so are the pests. Almost seems like they are knocking at our front door. When we are itching to get out they are waiting for the right opportunity to get in. Wondering when you should call the front office to let them know about a pest related issue? As soon as you notice you have a problem! Many of apartment dwellers overlook common pest occurrences because most people are not aware of what can be done about it given that they are renters.
Some pest related problems that should be addressed with the leasing office;
Abundance of silverfish. Usually found in the bathroom or where you find humidity.
Spiderwebs outside your windows. Yes, even if you are not on the first floor you should call. The webs built close to widows can easily lead to the spiders making their way inside.
Spiders inside the home. Most often they will supply you with sticky paper to place in areas inside your unit. Same goes for pincher bugs.
Rodents! At the first sign of a rodent problem you should call maintenance. One thing that is commonly done with outside patio doors is to install a door sweep to prevent rats. Be cautious when storying food in an outside patio storage. Check that all food is closed and sealed properly.
Cockroaches!
Fleas! This may have to be discussed with the leasing office if the fleas were brought in by your pet you are most likely liable and will have to get that taken care of on your own. However, if you have just moved in and noticed that you have fleas already present upon move in then you will want to contact them asap.
Termites/ Termite droppings. They property management will want to know of any signs of termites, because of the devastation termites can cause a structure. Termites are more common in older wooden structures. Chances are if you are living in an older complex by the coast the leasing office is familiar with termite related calls, and they should have termite company they are working with.
Wood Rot. Again this is most often seen in the older wooden complexes. Wood rot can often be spotted sprouting from old exposed wood railings and patios. Termite and pest control companies also provide maintenance for wood rot.
Ants! If you see them starting to make way into your kitchen try some simple ant baits you can find at the store, wipe down counters often, and make sure that food is sealed properly. If an ant problem persists call your front office and see if they can have the contracted pest control company service your unit for ants.
Windows that are not sealed properly or ripped screens. These should be taken care of for several safety reasons. Not to mention all the insects that can make way easily into an apartment.
Don’t forget about the pests in the garage!
There is no reason why your garage should be neglected when it comes to pest control in any situation home, or apartment living. Keep an eye on your garage for common pests. Rodent droppings, a single rat can chew through wires under the hood of your vehicle. Spiders can easily go unseen for months, spinning webs behind storage bins. Termites can cripple the beams in some wood garages, causing the structure to give and any moment if not treated. Routinely clean and clear out your garage, checking for any signs of pests. If you are doing your part to prevent pests from invading your apartment and garage, so should your property management company.
Let’s End With
Your apartment is your home and should be treated as so. You pay into the lease and it is the duty of your property management company to help provide you with a clean and sanitary living environment. That means when you have a pest related issue that you call your leasing office to report a problem.
