Megan Lorack gives the scoop on her time with Black Knight Pest Control.
Interview with Vice President Megan Lorack
I started by asking Megan - when did you start working full time at Black Knight Termite and Pest Control?
I started work at Black Knight after I graduated from college in January of 2010. I started working in the office typing reports and answering phones. I quit in fall of 2011 so I could go to a discipleship school in San Diego. After I finished that I came back to work at Black Knight in January of 2013. That is when I started in the position I have now doing business development.
I then asked, what made you decide to get into the business with your dad Jim? And later take it on to be your own Company in the future?
When I started working at Black Knight, I did not see it as a long term thing. I had just finished college, had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and needed a job while I figured it out. After I left in 2011 and went back to working retail, I realized I loved working with people and helping people find the best solution. I decided to come back to work with my dad in 2013, again not long term, but the more I took on the business development role, the more I realized how much I liked building a company and helping it grow. I love how it feels looking at the numbers and seeing growth and knowing I had a part in that. When my dad approached me about the possibility of taking over the company I jumped at the chance. I was 10 years old when my dad started Black Knight. The company has always been a part of my life and the opportunity of carrying that legacy on for my own children to grow up with is something I am so excited for.
Moving on I wanted to hear what Megan enjoys most about Black Knight Pest Control?
I love what I do! Probably the thing I most enjoy would have to be the family feel we have within the company. Growing up with Black Knight, the office has always felt like a second home to me. Our office manager, Melissa, has known me since I was 15 years old. She has seen me grow up and often is more like an older sister to me than a co-worker. Even though we are growing, we have done everything we can to maintain that family feel we have always had a Black Knight.
Next I asked, what would you like to see happen with the company in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years I would love to see Black Knight continue to grow. We have grown so much in the past 5 years and I want for that to continue without losing the small, family owned feeling we have always had. As we grow and add more employees, it is so important to us that we find the most qualified, helpful and trustworthy people to take care of our customers. Finding employees we can trust with our customers is the hardest part of growing..
I ended the interview with a bit of a fun one. Which pests bothers you the most, and why?
SPIDERS!! Definitely spiders. Although roaches are a high second. I have never handled spiders or bugs in general well so it is kind of ironic that I would own a pest control company. Although, I always tell people, it works because now I know the best way to kill any bug!!
I had a blast asking Megan a few questions on herself, and the Pest Control business. In speaking with her, you get a sense of passion for what she does, and positive outlook on what is to come. Megan’s dedication to the company through the years, then on into a global pandemic, and helping to pull the company through even better than before is something to be proud of. Megan proves to be true leadership at its finest.
Look out Temecula Valley, you have young and hungry business woman on your hands. Not to mention new mother, to sweet baby Amaya, that turns one this month. Happy celebrations all around, to a successful family owned and operated local business, and a growing family!
